Long Tail preview

I confess I haven’t read it, but it’s only a matter of time. The Long Tail is out in paperback in the UK and Random House has put lots of it on the net.
The premise of the long tail is niche products become more economic to supply as the costs of production and distribution fall (mainly due to the Internet). The future of business, says the book’s catchy strapline, is selling less of more.
Ironically, it’s a blockbuster business book. And considering how much of it you can read on the net, it seems appropriate Chris Anderson’s next book is to be called ‘Free‘.

I would think that as population has grown the niche market for products has grown as well.
Good point. I’m looking forward to reading The Long Tail because it made quite quite a splash and the message is culturally arresting as we move away from ‘one-size fits all’, big business etc. and towards the little guy. Or maybe I’m romanticising. I’ll let you know when I read it!
