Pouring money into digital, sucking it out of newspapers

Last week in New York:
“I think we’ve got to pour some money into digital… There’s so much going on on the Internet. We’ve got to find new ways and new business models to get revenues. Or else the world is going to be owned by Google.”
Rupert Murdoch in the Wall Street Journal, explaining what he would change, should News Corp take over Dow Jones, parent of the Journal.
And, last week in San Francisco:
I leave with great sadness, but not a trace of bitterness. We all know what is happening to the newspaper industry, and it is not pretty…
To be honest, I thought I’d get the chance to help lead the paper where it needed to go to compete successfully in the digital age. But instead, off I go.
